For those that don’t know the TWA Hotel JFK is a mid-century modern-themed hotel with a nostalgic nod to the golden age of air travel.
If you’re looking for a unique stay at the airport hotel New York JFK, the TWA Hotel is your perfect pick.
Here you will find my review of my stay at the TWA Hotel at JFK
TWA Hotel At JFK: A Bucket List Experience
Where Is The TWA Hotel At JFK?
Nestled within the heart of JFK Airport The TWA Hotel is located in the former TWA terminal. This terminal is a stunning structure designed by the legendary architect Eero Saarinen in 1962.
It is located at Terminal 5. Fortunately, my connection landed in Terminal 5 and TWA Hotel was a short stroll away.
The Air Train is another option to get to Terminal 5. It is free and efficient.
As Hotels at JFK airport, you couldn’t get more convenient.
Before I walked into the TWA hotel I had to stop for a moment to take in the building, it’s incredible.
.Eero Saarinen’s 1962 TWA Flight Center is an architectural delight and forms the lobby of the hotel. Once inside I have to say it took my breath away.
For a JFK airport hotel it’s pretty special.
Checking in was easy even though admit to being distracted by all the quirky architecture and mid-century design.
From the color to the clean design, and the curved seating areas I was so impressed. Hotels at the airport aren’t normally this incredible.
Rooms At The TWA Hotel
I stayed in a standard king and was pleasantly surprised. While not big the room was stylish with a mid century feel and was perhaps one of the cleanest rooms I have ever seen.
I also have to say I love the corridors to the rooms in the TWA hotel.
It’s an odd thing to say but they are curved and were fantastic.
I also loved the Eero Saarinen-designed midcentury modern furnishings in the room it really added to the ambiance.
What surprised me most about the rooms at JFK Airport Hotel TWA was how quiet they were especially considering how close it is to the airport.
Apparently, the rooms have the second thickest windows in the world.
That coupled with black our blinds and a super comfy bed I have never slept so well.
We all know how hotels at airports can provide less than a perfect nights sleep, this wasn’t the case here.
What I appreciate about the TWA hotel, JFK is that the rooms can be hired during the day for four hours or more ( maximum 12).
So if your flight has you needing to sleep during the day they can accommodate that.
These rooms are the perfect place to rest before a long haul flight. Here are some tips for surviving long-haul flights and how to avoid getting sick on a plane.
Amenities At The Hotel
The list of amenities at the TWA hotel, JFK are incredible. The infinity pool overlooks the runway and while I didn’t swim I spent some time on the lounger watching planes take off.
The fitness center is the world’s biggest hotel gym and they have a curling rink and a Twister room on site.
I did pop my head into the Sweet And Glow salon which was adorable.
There are so many meeting rooms and conference facilities here too.
Bars And Restaurants At The TWA Hotel
What I did check out though was the iconic Connie Cocktail Lounge. If you have seen a picture of this hotel New York Airport JFK I bet it had this cocktail lounge in.
The lounge is set in a 1958 Lockheed Constellation “Connie” airplane and stands on the tarmac.
It opens at 4pm which was when I went and is a must see. It has been named one of the best hotel bars in the world by Departures.
As hotels at JFK airport bars go it’s unique.
The hotel has five other places to drink and eat. The Sunken Lunge is another cocktail bar that is a must-see.
Its iconic 6o’s design and huge windows are breathtaking. The food hall and coffee bar are great places for quick snacks.
I ate in the Paris Café which is located in the in the heart of the 1962 Eero Saarinen-designed TWA terminal and looks over the runway.
I highly recommend eating here the food was incredible and the view even better.
What I found most fascinating about the hotel though were the museum exhibits. The New York Historical Society has curated an incredible collection of memorabilia relating to the Jet Age.
I have to confess In my early 20’s I dreamed of been an airline stewardess (what they were called back then.) However my life didn’t go down that route but I often still wondered what could have been.
So seeing the collection of stewardess and pilots uniforms dating from 1945 to 2001 was fascinating.
The exhibitions are located in various spots around the hotel and are worth exploring.
As someone who remembers the 60’s well and has always loved travel I found staying here an absolute delight
It is one of the best airport hotels in New York JFK I have stayed in so far.I can’t recommend a stay here enough.
Yes, it is worth the splurge and I hope this TWA hotel review reflects how much I loved staying here.
