How To Get To Windsor Castle from London
Windsor is about 28 miles from London in the county of leafy Berkshire and easy to reach by public transport.
If you are wondering how to get to Windsor Castle from London there are several options.
- Train: Take the train from London Paddington with a change at Slough, arriving in Windsor in less than an hour. Alternatively, take a direct train from London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside. Windsor to London by train is easy. (Read more London Day Trips By Train)
- Bus: National Express operates services from Victoria Coach Station to Windsor. The journey typically takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- Car: Drive approximately 25 miles west of London via the M4 motorway. Parking is available in Windsor town center. I would drive as a last option as the route can be very busy and parking difficult especially during peak times.
- Guided Tours: Take a guided tour from London like the Half-Day Trip to Windsor with Castle Tickets or Royal Icons Tour from Westminster to Windsor Castle.
Things To Do In Windsor London: Top 10 Not To Miss
Visit Windsor Castle
The centerpiece of Windsor England, this iconic castle has been home to British royalty for over 1,000 years. It is the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world.
I loved the Changing Of The Guard, walking around the state apartments and St. George’s Chapel where Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip are buried.
The Castle is also famous for housing an extensive collection of royal artifacts.
Make sure to reserve time for the Royal Collection, which showcases exquisite items like porcelain, historic furniture, and priceless works of art.
Because it is a working castle, the opening times at the castle vary. It’s always best to check before you travel. The website gives lots of advanced notice about closures.

Part of the Royal Estate this park has 4,800 acres to explore.
It is a vast expanse of forests, grasslands, lakes, and gardens. And all beautifully maintained.
My favorite part was the Deer Park although I did wait a while to catch a glimpse.
The gardens are open daily and free to enter. The list of things to see and do here is endless. I loved The Savill Garden, Virginia Water Lake, and the Valley Gardens.
If you have children there are several areas dedicated to them and a great adventure play area.
This is one of the best things to do in Windsor.
Take The Children To Legoland Windsor
My children were all grown up when we visited but I have heard great things about Legoland Windsor. If you have small children they will love it here.
As you may have guessed it’s a theme park dedicated to all things Lego. But it is more than that with rides, experiences, and live shows.
Most people say the best part was Miniland where iconic landmarks from around the globe are recreated with millions of Lego bricks.
The Lego 4D Cinema is also said to be amazing and fun.
Located approximately three miles southwest of Windsor you can get a bus from Windsor town center. Parking is available for those arriving by car, with clear signposts guiding you from major routes.

The walk starts at Windsor Bridge and is easy to navigate.
There are much longer routes if you have the time.

Experience Windsor’s riverside beauty with a boat trip on the River Thames.
